The estate

For five generations and almost two hundred years the Melsheimer family has been growing fine Riesling wines on the steep slopes around the village of Reil in the valley of the river Moselle. Today Thorsten Melsheimer manages the estate, together with his wife Stefanie and supported by his parents and three kids. An ›old style‹, but highly lively family estate.

About fifty per cent of all our vineyards are classified as ›Steilstlage‹. Which means that these are very small, very steep and slate stone wall-supported vineyards, certified as a historical cultural landscape (named ›Kulturlandschaft‹ in German). Along the Moselle river valley only 5 per cent of all the vineyards belong to that type.

riesling vinesHere as in all of our vineyards we grow exclusivly Riesling wines. The Moselle valley has been famous for that grape for centuries and real aficionados know that it is delivering its most perfect wines right here. From it we produce refined but highly aromatic still wines and excellent sparkling ones, following traditional proceedings. Lots of elaborate hand work, great enthusiasm and lifeblood are needed for this. For each new vintage is a gift of nature as well as a challenge for our passion and professionalism.

Besides the winegrowing we also manage two stylish guest houses.
